Facts About LASIK Vision Improvement Surgery

The Cornea, which is the clear part of the eye passes light rays to the retina which is found on the back of the eye. The cornea is normally free from imperfections, but in the event that the cornea becomes altered, either as a result of old age, injury or disease, then images relayed by light to the eye through the cornea are poorly focused and this results to blurred vision.

LASIK procedure involves a tool called microkeratome, this instrument is used to make an incision on the edge of the cornea, sophisticated laser is then passed there. The procedure in highly accurate because the laser is computer controlled. The laser makes minute corrections to the cornea defects, it basically irons out any defects and restores the cornea into it's natural shape.
But not all people vision problems qualify for this procedure, this is because LASIK requires that the cornea is thick enough for one to qualify, the cornea thickness measurement is done by an ophthalmic specialist before the procedure is carried out.
Eye patients interested in LASIK must go through extensive evaluation by an ophthalmic specialist. This enables the ophthalmologist to examine the patient and see if there are other hidden health problems that could affect the patients vision in the future.
Certified LASIK clinics will perform a number of pre-surgery tests and inform the candidate of the results and suitability for LASIK.
The examination is very simple and includes nothing more than a history of stable vision in the last two years. Since contact lenses change the change the shape of the cornea, people are usually advised to avoid wearing them prior to LASIK treatment. So, avoid wearing your soft contact lenses for up to three days to the surgery.
