As much as all of us want to stay young it is impossible to stop the natural process of aging. We might be able to slow it down some but in the end we are going to get old and so are all of the systems within our body and the digestive system is not immune to the affects of aging.

As anything else with age, the digestive system begins to be less efficient as we add on the years. This means that even if your diet is totally packed with the right nutrients you still are not going to get the amount of necessities that you need for your body as you did when you were a lot younger.

Hydrochloric acid is something that the digestive system needs in order to process the foods that go into your body and as we age, we begin to produce less and less of hydrochloric acid. Enzymes that are also need to help break down foods also decline and it makes the body have problems with digesting proteins, the fats we take in as well as carbohydrates, all of which are known as macro nutrients.

Makes sense why a lot of older people are not as healthy as they were when they were much younger. There is some good news though, because there are some ways that can help your aging digestive system and help you get enough nutrients into your body.

You should first learn what the symptoms are for problems with your digestive system. If you always feel bloated after every meal that you eat is a sign of incomplete digestion. A lot of belching, some sort of burning sensation, always feeling full even if you hardly ate a thing, lots of gas and then there's that upset stomach after you eat. All of these could point to the fact you are having problems digesting your foods properly.

To help with this problem, there are commercial supplements for the loss of enzymes that will help your system to be able to do it's job a lot better by increasing those levels of important enzymes that is needed for you to properly be able to digest food. The enzymes needed are proteases and these are the enzymes that can break down the proteins in your body. Then there are the lipases enzymes that help to break down the fats you take into your body. Finally there are the amylases that help to break down all of the carbohydrates. You can also find commercial hydrochloric acid that is the main ingredient of the gastric acid in your system, commercially produced it's called betaine hydrochloride. Remember though, always check with your doctor first before you begin on any type of supplemental enzyme replacement treatment.

If you have some sort of comfort with digestion sometimes it's a good idea if you look at the combinations of foods that you are eating. Use your common sense on this. Also take into consideration the time of day that you might be eating. You need to also give yourself time to digest the food so it's always a good idea to not eat anything else sooner than three hours before the next time you eat something. And never eat a large meal just before going to bed, not only will this hamper your digestion it will also be hard for you to get a good night's sleep.

In order to help your system out you can do a few things. Make sure that your foods are in proper combinations, try to avoid foods that are full of sugars and trans fats, try using foods known to help digestion like some papaya or some pineapple, try using enzyme supplements, drink fresh juice, eat yogart with probiotics in them and don't lay down or go to sleep right after you have finished eating.
